LUAS has played a vital role in public outreach at the Nightengale Archaeological Center. LUAS volunteers continue to direct the bi-monthly open houses at the center, providing the public opportunities to learn about the prehistoric past of the Llano Uplift and Central Texas.
Public Tours
Public tours of the center are held on the second and fourth Saturday of most months from 2:00-5:00 P.M. For more information or to volunteer contact Chuck Hixson.
Education
LUAS also has been instrumental in developing and providing educational programming for thousands of schoolchildren, parents, and teachers over the past fifteen years. Each volunteer brings a unique set of skills and interests to the program, helping to ensure a rich and rewarding visit for elementary through high school-aged students.

School tours of the Nightengale Archaeological Center are held by special arrangement throughout the school year. For information or to volunteer contact Jeannie Smith or call 1(800) 776-5272 ext. 8001.
Teacher Workshops
The Teacher Workshop program at Nightengale has been suspended.
In past summers a one to three day teacher workshop was held at the center. LUAS members have assisted with everything from logistical support to curriculum development, including a teaching module designed to encourage students to explore their personal pasts from an archeological perspective.
See the Texas Archeological Society for alternatives and ongoing professional development for teachers.
See also the new Gault School for Archaeological Research for a fully devloped archaeology curriculum.
LCRA's McKinney Roughs facility offers various teacher workshops upon request.
